Church by the Sea is beginning the challenging process of hiring a new pastor.
This transition time is a time for affirming the church staff and elected leaders, for reviewing the biblical role of pastoral leadership and for renewing congregational fellowship and responsibility. It is a time for celebrating the mercies of God upon His people in the past, for focusing on the future with faith and hope and for reflecting upon the core values and mission of our church. It is time for honoring the role of our pastor, Armand Weller, and for putting into place a spiritually minded and responsible Search Committee to seek out and bring to our church with much prayer and waiting upon the Lord, a man they believe God has chosen to fill this vital role in our church.
This is also a transition period in the leadership of our church as in January, our Church Moderator, Larry Kimmerling completes his tenure and Randy Hiepe will begin his.
The Church by the Sea By-Laws stipulate the following:
Any interested candidates can submit their inquiries and/or resumes to:
That …”the Church Council, after seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, shall appoint a Search Committee consisting of seven members, one each nominated from the Church Council, the Board of Diaconate, the Board of Trustees and the Board of Christian Education, and three members-at-large of the Church. “ This Committee will be appointed on Dec. 21st and according to the By-Laws, will elect a chairman and establish criteria and qualification for candidates. The Search Committee members will be posted and identified in the church bulletin. We know that this is important to all of you, so we will let you know who the committee members are right away. All meetings of the Search Committee shall be open to Church members.
This Search Committee will also make decisions as to the possibility of hiring an interim pastor so that the Search Committee will be able to better focus on the hiring of the right person as our new pastor.
Unlike most searches in the business world, this is a process that must bring alignment in discernment among members of CBTS, the Search Committee, Church Council, pastor and first and foremost God. Discernment is the perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding.
The committee will plan to have a wide search of candidates. They will utilize our church web site to communicate to our congregation the progress being made in this search. The committee will continue to provide timely updates to the congregation at church services.
This Search Committee has the responsibility that you entrust to it. The congregation at Church by the Sea has the responsibility to pray because the Search Committee should not do it alone. Please pray that the committee will allow the Holy Spirit to give them direction in finding the right person for our church.
